The first time we met was at the spa. (A camp with a spa you say? Well yes, and good food, and lots of room to play and relax.) Rebecca was getting a Henna tattoo and we sat and talked for quite a while. After trying to think of a good way to approach the topic (and failing) I finally just leaned in and kissed her. To my surprise instead of pulling back and slapping me she kissed back.
We parted shortly after that but met up at dinner time. She was with Duke again this time and I was with my friend Lisa. (From our talk before we both knew these were platonic friends.) After dinner however I lost track of her and try as I might I was not able to find her again that night. And we were all leaving the next morning!
The next morning I went looking again and was not able to find her. I had enjoyed talking with her the day before and did not want to loose touch. But I had just given up looking and figured that I would never see her again, when I turned a corner and there she was! She was leaving however and so this was good bye. Feeling a little bolder I gave her a 'good bye' kiss. (A little deeper and longer then yesterday.) We then exchanged email addresses and promised to be in touch.
And we did connect on line on Thursday. I invited her to come to Pittsburgh and see me in a play at a local community theatre. She accepted the invitation and came up for the weekend. She kept talking about it as coming to visit with me and my friend Lisa (who Rebecca had talked with and gotten to like also when at camp). But I did not care about such a distinction. She was coming up and we would have more time to talk and get to know each other. She saw the play on both Friday & Saturday night. I showed her some of the sights of Pittsburgh and we generally had a good time.
The next week, separated by 200 miles again, we talked every night on the phone for a total of about 20 hours. It was during these phone calls that I fell in love with Rebecca. She did not believe it at first. Didn't want to believe it I am sure. But she could not ignore it and neither could I. We first talked about her moving up here next spring. Then perhaps over Thanksgiving week. Now we have plans for the middle of September. So I have to stop now and go do some painting in her new apartment.
Later,
Pete
