Gotta Love Gilligan's Island

I gotta tell ya, folks, this whole wedding reception theme of "Gilligan's Island" kinda grows on ya after awhile. Pete is totally addicted to Ebay, buying all sorts of kitschy stuff from the show, to give away as gifts and/or to display around the place...I'm making all kinds of cool stuff with Gilligan character's faces on them, like table seating place cards, coasters, even picks for the cupcakes or desserts! (toothpick + hot glue + small face glued onto poster board).

I know, I know, this show was such a "white bread" load of hooey, though, I mean really, how many BLACK people do you know have ever watched it?! Probably not very many. And truthfully, it was a rather DUMB show overall, but at the same time, it was kinda fun if you let it be. Ya just had to get into the SPIRIT of it, ya know?! Suspension of disbelief and all that.

And now, I confess, though I only liked it SOMEWHAT as a kid, I am finding that I like it much more NOW as an adult. (Despite my usual snubbery of all silly sitcoms on t.v.) I'm also lovin' Boston Legal, we bought the entire DVD set and we're watching every episode in a row, so it's very cool and I'm only sorry I didn't watch it religiously while it was on. LOVE James Spader! Did you ever see "The Secretary?" Ohhhhhh yesssssss, he's awesome in that film too. ROWR!

Anyway, ahem, but I digress. Pete actually found an accurate replica of the SS Minnow, built from balsa wood, on Ebay. Of COURSE he had to buy it, and we're going to put it in the center of the food table! My best friend Laurie's son, Noah, just got a scroll saw, so he's made us a wooden pineapple, anchor, and captain's wheel to display too! How cool is THAT?!

So, this whole thing, if you can envision it so far, is going to be very cool. As a mater of fact, I just ordered 100 of those coconut cups for everybody to drink out of....God Bless Oriental Trading Company....hehehe...and I ordered some round raffia place mats to put on the bridal table and to use under the centerpieces on the guest tables! So, if you can picture this shin-dig so far, you're getting the idea of what it'll be like. Fun, huh? Kinda kooky, like me, and kinda elegant too with the stuff I'm making like the wedding cake holder and the flowers and stuff. It should be a very cool reception! (I hope)! A little "Hawaiin" laid back kitschy flavor, mixed with elegant items all decorating the place. Mmmm hmmm, now you're starting to get it!!

I can guarantee, none of my family or friends have ever seen such a wedding in their entire lives. We are going to make sure of that!! It will truly be unique.

(Yes, I have thought this...I won't know what to do with myself after this thing is over...)!! But for now, I'm having a fun time getting into the spirit of Gilligan!!

Well, bye for now!! (p.s. The Rescue from Gilligan's Island SUCKED so we're not showing it).

Love, Becky
